Attendance with face recognition
ZKTeco face-recognition terminals, a Raspberry Pi and a Laravel platform that turn every clock-in at Original Spot Design into worked hours, overtime and monthly salary reports.
The client
Original Spot Design is a Portuguese company with an office and a factory. Besides this attendance platform, we build other business platforms for them, such as production, stock and digital signage.
The challenge
Worked hours feed straight into salaries, so every clock-in has to count correctly. The rules are detailed: contract hours, overtime thresholds, minimum meal breaks, half days, weekends and municipal holidays, and holidays or rest days that are approved after the fact. Doing this by hand from raw clock-in lists took time and invited mistakes.
What we built
- Face-recognition terminals. ZKTeco SpeedFace terminals at the office and in the factory. Employees clock in and out by face, without cards or paper.
- A Raspberry Pi on site. A small computer reads the attendance logs from each terminal and sends them to the platform over its API. It also creates and updates employees on the terminals.
- Day calculation. For every employee and every day, the platform checks the clock-in and clock-out pairs and calculates regular, extra, bonus and missing hours, applying the contract rules, meal breaks, weekends and municipal holidays.
- Approvals. Holidays and rest days are requested and approved in the platform. An approval automatically recalculates every affected day. Days lock after three days, so payroll figures stay stable.
- Salary reports. Monthly reports per employee, with separate rules for different employee types.
- Linked systems. Employee and contract data come from the company's HR system, and timesheets per project and client come from its production system.
Technology
ZKTeco SpeedFace terminals, a Raspberry Pi running Python scripts, and a Laravel platform with an API, queued jobs and database views for salary data.
The result
Every clock-in at the office and the factory ends up as a checked working day without manual counting, and HR works from one source for hours, overtime and salaries.
